Excellent post. Never really looked at it this way. Makes perfect sense. We do have talented players but no one who is willing to crash the net, get dirty. Remember when Miller got plowed and no one stepped up? It is a huge problem that has not gotten better. Kane is gritty but he is almost certainly gone. McCabe has some grit. That's about it. Eichel has ZERO grit. Needs to improve that part of his game

When you ask are ROR, KO and JP bad players, what are you comparing to?

Very fine post. You described the problem as I see it. Except in one case it is a problem of team composition. After you've been in the league 6-9 years you aren't going to change your game. And, at least in my experience, you must change players not try to get them to change their spots. Save Eichel who is beyond soft and sloppy. He isn't close to being captain let alone a star in the class of the others in the nhl. The best we can hope for is that he is just not ready for the pressure. If not, we may be only halway through our tank.

Meh,

Nolan, Girgensons, Larsson, ROR.

Grit doesnt win you hockey games, scoring does.

I'll trade all my gritty players for Pat Kane and Nikita Kucherov.

Looks like it's time to give Judd Petersen the nod.

Two issues when it comes to grit.

1. Who the hell wants to take a beating on a losing season, especially when stealth tank is becoming quite obvious. If Sabres management were serious about playoffs, moves would have already been made, players know this as much as the fans do.

2. If you're not in a contract year like Kane, why would you want to take a beating by crashing the net? Too easy to just mail it in right now. Get the work day done, collect your paycheck, get to the bar. If fans to like it, too bad.

The best chances Buffalo had were the couple of times there was a scramble in front of Vasi.

That is a Lightning weakness - clearing out the blue paint area. If you crash the net hard on Tampa, you will get results.

This is kind of surprising when you have Hedman on the blueline

I'm pretty confident that jack will be fine once we get some more talent around him.

Lets face it folks Gretzky couldn't make this a playoff team right now... And while I've been critical of Jacks play I suspect that he is feeling the pressure of trying to carry the entire team... that's a lot to put on any one player, Especially someone that young.

Matthews has a lot more talent to work with.... even McDavid has more talent around him and look at their struggles. I'm less worried about jack than anyone at this point... I would however like to see more effort from him at times. (when he uses that speed he's very noticeable).

But I agree with sskkoo1 the players know if no moves have been made it is what it is.
